Scroll Drawings
A series of pencil on paper drawings made during a road trip across the United States in 2013. The Scroll Drawings consist of one large drawing measuring 152 x 338 cm made on various location across the USA and six smaller drawings measuring 100 x 40 cm done from the passenger seat.
The method used in creating the drawings derived from the need to create a system that could overcome the problem of doing large scale work without the flat surface which was actually needed. Therefore the particular procedure of drawing on a tube was invented. Scrolling and scanning the curved or partial surface working through the paper like a printer, one line at a time. Every line with it's own characteristic, but still corresponding and relating to the previous line. Eventually every bump in the road and every tiny crack in the floor affects the drawing and it becomes a topographical map of the journey itself.
